Research groups are categorized according to their experience and leadership in the respective science or technology domains as:

• Consolidated research groups;

• Emerging research groups.

Consolidated research groups are hierarchically organized under one – or occasionally two – leaders with proven skill and experience managing funded research projects and academic production.

Emerging research groups are characterized by experience running non-funded research projects and scientific production that do not yet meet the criteria for consolidated groups.
