MORE – online mechanism for references was developed by Maria Bernardete Martins Alves (librarian) and Leandro Luis Mendes (graduation student in Information Systems), in partnership between BU (Biblioteca Universitária) and RExLab (Laboratório de Experimentação Remota), under João Bosco da Mota Alves coordination (full professor of Departamento de Informática e de Estatística, INE, and RExLab coordinator), all from UFSC (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina), in the scope of the Project ALFA II-0465-A - RExNet Yippee (Remote Experimentation Network – Yielding an Inter-university peer-to-peer e-service), from which UFSC is one of the 10 involved  universities from the 5 participant countries.

RExLab as much as RExNet consortium has a fundamental principal, the social inclusion within all its modalities, and MORE is no exception to the rule, because it is a free service.

MORE is a free tool and easy to use, which produces citations automatically in the text and references in ABNT* format, for fifteen (15) types of documents, from specific forms, selected in a main menu. The documents covered by the mechanism are the most used into the academia: books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, theses and dissertations, magazine articles, journal articles, in printed and electronic formats, apart from the exclusive documents in electronic format: home page and e-mail.

Furthermore, the program automates some procedures, such as: the inversion of authors names (surname, given name); use of upper case and lower case, highlight in the title and punctuation.

MORE  was made available in a Beta version, on September 2005. On March 2006 the 1.0 version was made available, with two great innovations: the creation of a personal database and a public database which keeps and organizes all the bibliographic material formatted by the system, moreover, allowing the Research function, which is used to recover a reference in a personal database, as much as in a public database. The system warns when the user is anonymous, being a way of reminding them to login. The concern with accessibility has enabled to correct flaws presented in the beta version, earning the seal W3C, for the 1.0 version.
