The Coordination for International and Interinstitutional Cooperation (COI) of Mackenzie Presbyterian University (MPU) concluded its Study Abroad short-term course on July 20th. The course was taught entirely in English for students from every Mackenzie program and international students.
The course started in May, with the theme Water Management, Sustainability, and Pollution: Impacts and Solutions for the Environment and Traditional Communities of Brazil, and it focused on providing an understanding of the environmental, social (well-being and economic), and technical impacts of water pollution and treatment in the state of São Paulo. The course consisted of five modules, including theoretical classes, technical visits, and practical classes, which allowed students to immerse themselves in Brazilian culture and society.
At the end of the course, participants were invited to propose innovative solutions to improve the social impact of water pollution in the region.
The winter course had the attendance of an American student, Sarah Maria Cinco, from Rice University in Texas. She attended the course because she believes Brazil is a leader in global environmental issues and one of the countries with the most technical knowledge to contribute to slowing down climate change. Sarah Cinco came to Brazil through a Rice University program that encourages social-focused exchange, such as volunteering.
You can find more about it here.
The course will be offered again from June to July 2024. If interested, reach out through coi.eh@mackenzie.br
