Admission process

1 - FOREIGN LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST

The proficiency test entails the translation of a text in the selected language amongst the options provided by the Program. 

1.1 - LANGUAGE OPTIONS

English; Spanish; French; Italian.

1.2 - CERTIFICATES ACCEPTED

Certificates of foreign language proficiency obtained within the last five (5) years from institutions endorsed by the PPGEAHC Admission Process Committee will be accepted. 

OBSERVATIONS:

1. Following registration, changes to the selected foreign language will not be allowed.

2. The use of a single conventional, non-electronic, fully unilingual dictionary

without a glossary containing Portuguese words is allowed.

3. Since the announcement for the 2023-1 Admission process, students who fail the Proficiency Test will be entitled to one exam review to verify their performance.

4. Since with the 2023-1 selection process, a numerical score will be assigned for the Proficiency Test, ranging from 0 to 10. Students must obtain at least a score of 6 points to pass.

5. Students who fail the Proficiency Test twice during the course will be entitled to an Instrumental Course in the chosen language, in which they did not pass (the cost will be determined by the Mackenzie Language Center - MLC). The course will feature an exam aimed at measuring students' performance. The results of this exam will classify the student as either Proficient or Not Proficient according to the program's standards. It is the student's responsibility to contact the MLC to enroll in the instrumental course, specify the language in which they need assistance, and commit to attending the course through to the final exam. This will validate proficiency in the language in which the student previously failed standard exams.

2 - INTERVIEW

The interview will be conducted in person, except for candidates residing outside the country or the state of São Paulo. Interviews will take place on a date and time determined by the course’s admission committee, in accordance with the schedule outlined in the announcement. The Program will schedule the interviews based on this timetable, and candidates will be promptly notified via email regarding the date and time of their interview. 

3 - PRELIMINARY RESEARCH PROJECT AND STATEMENT OF INTEREST FOR ADMISSION TO THE PROGRAM (single PDF file)

The Preliminary Research Project and the Statement of Interest for admission to the Program, for applicants to the Master's and Doctoral programs, must be attached to the online Application Form. Failure to provide the Preliminary Research Project and Statement will result in disqualification from the selection process. Please name the PDF file using the candidate's full name. The Preliminary Research Project must be aligned with the Program's objectives.

3.1 – Length of the Preliminary Research Project: 5 to 6 pages (Arial 12, 1.5 line spacing)

3.2 –The Statement of Interest should not exceed 1 page and must include justification for choosing the Program, along with the indication of the chosen Research Line.

OBSERVATIONS:

Do not include a cover page in the Preliminary Research Project. If the number of pages differs from the specified limit, the candidate may be disqualified from the selection process. Preliminary Research Projects and Statements of Interest that do not align with the interdisciplinary area and the Program's proposal will not be accepted. Preliminary Research Projects and Statements of Interest sent via email will not be accepted. 

Essential elements that must be included in the Preliminary Research Project:

  • Candidate's name

  •  Title of the research

  • Intended focus (research theme) and justification for its selection

  • Connection of the research theme to the Program's Research Lines

  • Research question and objectives

  •  Proposed methodology and procedures

  •  Key authors that may form the theoretical framework

4. LATTES PLATFORM CURRICULUM – CNPq

The candidate's academic productivity (bibliographic production; technical production; artistic-cultural production; participation in conferences, events, and exhibitions; experience in higher education teaching) will be considered in the ranking process, provided that these contributions are adequately verified.
