Syllabus Summary - Master's

The Master's of Linguistics and Literature course requires a minimum  of 42 cumulative credit units, comprising:

  • 12 credit units (3 disciplines) related to major subjects;
  • 12 credit units (3 disciplines) related to elective courses;
  • 4 credit units (1 discipline) for mandatory program activities related to the Scientific Methodology area:
  • 2 required credit units related to Dissertation Presentation;
  • 2 required credit units related to activities concerning research-based productions presented at scientific meetings, publications and other relevant academic activities, in accordance with the program regulations;
  • 10 required credit units related to research, written dissertation, qualification exam and public dissertation defense.
Scheduled activities
  • Scientific Methodology – 4 credit units;
  • Pre-Dissertation Presentation – 2 credit units;
  • Required Scheduled Activities (RSA): presentation of research-based productions, publications and other relevant academic activities, in accordance with the program regulations – 2 credit units;
Syllabus Summary - Doctor's

The Doctorate course requires a minimum of 62 credit units, comprising:

  • 8 credit units (2 subjects) related to mandatory subjects;
  • 12 credit units (3 subjects) related to elective subjects;
  • 2 credit units for mandatory program activities related to seminars or essays;
  • 18 credit units related to mandatory program activities consisting of: 8 credit units related to participation in lectures and sessions in defense of dissertations and theses; contributing to organizing events and execution of TCC the end of course paper and other relevant academic activities, in accordance with the internal regulations of the program, established each year; 10 credit units for academic production (chapter/book publishing and/or articles in journals, and the presentation of papers at scientific meetings), in accordance with the internal regulations of the Program, established each year;
  • 22 credit units related to research, essay writing, passing a qualifying examination, public defense of thesis
Scheduled activities
  • Pre-Thesis Presentation – 2 credit units;
  • Scheduled Mandatory Activity (SMA): participation in lectures and sessions in dissertation and/or thesis defenses; contributing to the organization of events; participating as an examiner in TCC boards;  10 credit units for academic production (chapter/book publishing and/or articles in journals, and the presentation of papers at scientific meetings), in accordance with the internal regulations of the Program.
Class Hours

Master's Degree:

Wednesdays – 1:15pm to 5:35pm.

Fridays – 8:20am to 11:50am and 2:05pm to 5:35pm.

Doctorate degree

Wednesdays – 2:15pm to 5:35pm.

Fridays – 8:20am to 11:50am and 2:05pm to 5:35pm.
