International CAPES - PrInt Program

Capes/PrInt has been designed to develop and implement the internationalization of the specific academic areas chosen by the institutions in an effort to foster the development of international research networks. With that in mind, Capes intends to reinforce the networks of support to internationalization in graduate programs. This will consequently lead to the improvement of the quality of academic production in this field of education. The program also includes the mobility of faculty and students to foster an international environment in participating institutions. Among the different themes and research projects of the institutional project Capes / PrInt conducted by UPM, our lab is leading the project Theory and applications of Social and Affective Neuroscience to human everyday interaction.

Considering the technical and scientific advances on sciences such as Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Biology, Computing, Physics, Medical Sciences, among others, the Neurosciences have become a great hub for the interaction of those areas, harboring a favorable environment for the interdisciplinary understanding of complex phenomena. One of the effects of this integration is the recent arise of areas such as Social and Affective Neuroscience. Studies and discoveries in this area are related to a range of aspects, from the physiological processes subjacent to emotions up to brain mechanisms that enable the ability that our species has of recognizing other peoples' emotions and responding adequately. Studies about morals, ethics and other aspects pertaining to philosophy, for instance, which are also important, have become part of the agenda in Neuroscience research.

In this project, we have created an international network for collaborative research composed by international leading researchers in this area. Over the course of four years, various opportunities will be offered as doctoral fellowships abroad, postdoctoral fellowship and young researcher. Post-doctoral fellowship in Social and Affective Neuroscience

Application period: February 1st - April 15th 2020

Start date: Between June - September 2020

Duration: 24 months

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship in Social and Affective Neuroscience. This is a CAPES-PrInt Fellowship within the scope of the project Theory and applications of Social and Affective Neuroscience to human everyday interaction. We aim to address fundamental questions regarding the universality of morality and affective processes and their implications on well-being and social networks across traditionally-studied WEIRD (i.e., wealthy, educated, industrial, rich, democratic) adult participants and less well-studied non-WEIRD participants (i.e., non-westernized indigenous tribes in remote regions from the Amazon and Alagoas regions in Brazil). This project funded by CAPES  - PrInt is putting together an international and interdisciplinary group of scholars with expertise in social neuroscience, affective science, and well-being. The selected candidate will work with Prof. Paulo Boggio in the Social and Cognitive Neuroscience Lab. Candidates should preferably have obtained their doctorate in Psychology, Neuroscience or related areas. We are looking for candidates with experience in EEG and/or fNIR as well as programming skills in R, Matlab, Python, among others. Our laboratory has as one of its main characteristics the valorization of teamwork and cooperation among its members; in this project this will be even more important as it is an interdisciplinary project that involves several members of the laboratory as well as from other research centers. Thus, candidates with social skills and ease of working in groups and in collaborative networks are also expected. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to supervise students who will assist in the research. Both oral and written proficiency in English are required.
