Background

The Brazilian Presbyterian Church is a lifelong member of Mackenzie which, from the very start, has defended not only its own freedom of expression and belief but also that of its students. The Institute has consolidated Education from Pre-School through to University and since then has been part of the struggled to encourage broad academic discussion without neglecting its most fundamental convictions.

Throughout its history, the Institution has become enshrined as a reference for excellent, pioneering education and has kept its commitment to ongoing pedagogical and academic development.

Teaching Systems

In 2004, the Institute began to plan the consolidation of the so-called Mackenzie Teaching Systems.

The Mackenzie Teaching System (SME) was the first educational system created and, in the form of textbooks, is the manifestation of the Institute’s essential view of education. It is aimed at private faith-based schools - such as Mackenzie Colleges themselves in São Paulo, Barueri, Brasília and Palmas. In use for more than a decade, nowadays the SME is used in over 250 schools throughout Brazil and by some international institutions, encompassing the entire Basic Education.

Mackenzie Educational (ME) is more recent and, so far, its catalogue includes material for Pre-School and Elementary Education. In this system, the Institute’s educational vision comes to life through a set of books for public and private schools in favor of developing education that values academic excellence.

Nowadays, together, the Teaching Systems serve more than 50 thousand students throughout Brazil. You can be part of this story.

Did you know?

The first version of the SME student and teacher notebooks was in 2005, with the Pre-School Education (three grades, at that time).

The SME material produced was first used for Pre-School Education in three Mackenzie Colleges. Colégio de Palmas (State of Tocantins) was created in 2016 and from the beginning has used this material in its activities.

In 2007/2008, four Christian schools were invited to partner with SME: Academia Cristã de Boa Viagem (Recife), Instituto Presbiteriano de Educação (Goiânia), Colégio Presbiteriano Reverendo Felipe Manoel de Campos (Porto Feliz -State of São Paulo) and Colégio Presbiteriano de Tatuí (Tatuí -State of São Paulo).

During this period, the team prepared the SME pilot material for the first three years of Elementary Education. By late 2008, the number of partner schools had risen to 30.

In 2009, 4,303 students in 52 partner schools were using the material.

In 2010, all the SME material for Elementary Education (grade 1 to 5) was ready, and the preparation began on the material for Elementary Education II (grade 6 and 7).

In 2011, a pilot project began that would eventually become the Mackenzie Educational System.

In 2015, Mackenzie Educational began, with 10 partner schools. Also, in 2015, the SME began to prepare the Secondary Education material, launching its educational portal.

By 2017, the ME had 37 partner schools while the SME had 234.
